In ceasefire violation, Israeli gunfire kills displaced Palestinian in Gaza, injures others

GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - JAN. 25, 2025: Since the early hours of Saturday, Jan. 25, displaced Palestinians hoping to return to northern Gaza have been waiting along the coastal Rashid Street and Salah al-Din Road for Israel’s withdrawal from the Netzarim Corridor. Those waiting on Salah al-Din Road lit fires to stay warm. A displaced Palestinian was killed and others were injured on Saturday by Israeli army gunfire on Salah Al-Din and Al-Rashid streets in central Gaza, in a violation of the ceasefire agreement that went into effect nearly a week ago. A Palestinian civilian's body and two injured individuals were brought to the Al-Awda and Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospitals in central Gaza after being shot by the Israeli army on the streets, medical sources told Anadolu. The Israeli army fired at displaced Palestinian people at the furthest point accessible on Salah Al-Din Street and Al-Rashid Street, which connect the southern and northern parts of the Gaza Strip, eyewitnesses said. They explained that the displaced Palestinians had gathered in these areas, either in their vehicles on Salah Al-Din Street or on foot, awaiting permission to cross into northern areas after Hamas handed over four Israeli female soldiers under the Jan. 19 ceasefire agreement. The Israeli army also set fire to some Palestinian homes in the Gaza-Israel border area, causing thick smoke to rise from the region. Under the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire day, Israel is planned to withdraw from the Netzarim Corridor area that separates northern Gaza from its south, allowing displaced Palestinian to return to their areas in northern Gaza.
