Musician Nile Rodgers is interviewed on his reaction to the war in Ukraine and the power of music to unite people.

Music: Fundraising concert for Ukraine: Nile Rodgers interview; Part 2 of 2 ENGLAND: Birmingham: Resorts World Arena: INT Nile Rodgers (Musician) interview SOT Q: HIS REACTION WHEN HE SAW WHAT WAS GOING ON IN UKRAINE - I was actually broken-hearted, I kept thinking to myself 'why can't we try 50-100 years of peace and no conflict' Q: ON SOME OF THE PICTURES AND IMAGES THAT HAVE BEEN SEEN - It was heartbreaking, a lot of my friends are Ukrainian, some of my employees are / I support so many people and I wanted to try and help as quickly as possible Q: ON THE POWER OF MUSIC TO UNITE PEOPLE - Music is a great uniting factor; it's allowed me to play in almost every country in the world; Ukraine, Russia, Baltics, all of these countries are all places where we play / music and people and no conflict; there's never any problems when we're playing for people it's honestly a giant love fest / for me to have to do the music that I normally would be doing for people feeling good to now try and raise money to help people that are feeling bad; of course I would do it without a thought, but having to do it it's what's breaking my heart a bit Q: ON MEMORIES OF PERFORMING IN UKRAINE - Not off the top of my head because I've been a musician all my life and I've played everywhere / I started out at Sesame Street at 17 years old, I can't think of a country I haven't played Q: ON WHAT WE TAKE AWAY FROM WATCHING CONCERT - We are family / that's my universal message / when I wrote that song way back in 1977 it's because it was a message that was universal and also a message I really feel in my heart / I'm a tree hugging hippy kind of guy and that's because I grew up in the hippy era, the peace and love era, and if you're going to believe in a philosophy, why not pick that one?
