Ukrainians Revive Tradition Of Podillia Pottery
VINNYTSIA, UKRAINE - JANUARY 9: Craftswoman Viktoriya Nikolaeva hand-makes a pottery item on a pottery wheel on January 9, 2025 in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. Viktoriya Nikolaeva, a craftswoman from Vinnytsia, has been restoring and researching the lost art of Bar ceramics for several years. She makes unique pottery based on a technique that appeared more than four centuries ago. This type of Podillia ceramics got its name from the city of Bar, where it originated in the 16th century. This craft was under threat of extinction due to repressions, famine and wartime hardships during the Stalinist terror, but thanks to the preserved artifacts, concerned Ukrainians are reviving the tradition of Podillia pottery today.
