UNITED KINGDOM - APRIL 05: This third class season ticket, valid from 19 January 1837 to 19 April 1837, was issued to William Beloe, Esquire. It shows the company's coat of arms, carried by the god Mercury, and was printed by Rowe, Kentish & Co. Running between London Bridge and Greenwich, the first part of the railway opened in 1936, with the entire line completed in 1838. Designed specifically for passenger traffic, it was the first railway in London, and the forerunner of the many inner suburban commuter systems. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
