Sonia Santa Rosa grieves over the coffin

LEGASPI, PHILIPPINES: Sonia Santa Rosa grieves over the coffin bearing the remains of her slain husband, Protestant pastor and peasant leader Isaias Santa Rosa before he was laid to rest at a cemetery in Legaspi city, 09 August 2006. A group of masked gunmen barged into Santa Rosa's house in nearby Malobago village in the eastern Bicol region on the night of 03 August 2006, abducted the father of four in front of his family, later taken to a river and killed in a volley of gunfire. The dead body of Philippine Army Corporal Lordger Pastrana, a member of military intelligence group was found lying close to the body of Santa Rosa. Sonia identified Pastrana as the leader of the death squad and said may have been accidentally shot by his own men. More than 700 poltical, trade union, and human rights activists have been killed in the Philippines since 2001, according to human rights group.
