Ryan Nicholson shows where one of his 13 tattoos has been removed in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility as seen in Los Angeles on August 15, 2013. Inmates in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have the opportunity to participate in a tattoo removal program which utilizes the latest technology in tattoo removal. The Tattoo Removal program started in February, 2012 as a collaborative partnership between the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Medical Services Bureau and the Inmate Services Bureau. The program is overseen by trained medical personnel and initially began with 25 volunteer inmates. The program has grown and currently has treated 276 male inmates and 260 female inmates totaling 536. Ryan, 39, who is incarerated for 3 years (but will serve only half that time and will be released in 2 months), is eventually going to have all his tattoos removed. He started to have the upper tattoo removed 42 weeks ago involving 7 treatments with one more treatment on his back before his release. (Photo by Gary Friedman/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)
