Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) world number sixteen Andy Irons (Kauai, HAW) defeated Jake Paterson (AUS) in classic surfing conditions in round four of the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Australia. Irons advanced to the quarterfinals where he takes on ASP world number seven CJ Hobgood (USA). The Rip Curl Pro, Australia's richest professionals surfing event with US$250 000 in prize money, is the first event of the 20001 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour (WCT).
