Women's Police Unit in Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - MAY 2009: Policewomen in training with Officer Jamila Barekzai, 44, the head of the policewomen's unit, at the old royal palace in Kabul, Afghanistan. Jamila began working in Kandahar under Malalai Kakar, who was one of the first policewomen in Afghanistan, and set up the women's police unit there. Malalai was later murdered by insurgents in September 2008 because of her role, and Jamila had to move to Kabul for her safety, having received many death threats from Taliban insurgents.
