Dislocation In The Cervical Portion Of The Column

Illustration from 'Atlas and Epitome of Traumatic Fractures and Dislocations' (by Dr. H. Helferich), 1902. These illustrations were made from specimens in which the dislocation had been produced artificially. Fig 1 a and 6 Unilateral dislocation rotatory luxation in the cervical portion of the column. View from the side and from behind. The fourth cervical vertebra is dislocated in such a manner that the articular process on the left side overrides and projects in front of that of the fifth. The luxation was produced by abduction of movement to the right or anterior rotation. The two processes became firmly locked. The prominence of the body of the fourth vertebra is seen lateral view and the inclination of the upper vertebra and of the head to the right posterior view. Fig 3 a and b- Bilateral dislocation in the cervical portion of the column flexion dislocation seen from the side and from behind. The body of the fourth vertebra projects some distance in front of the fifth the line of the vertebral column is perpendicular.. (Photo by VintageMedStock/Getty Images)
