(Original Caption) 1916-Dublin, Ireland- This is a view of Dublin's General Post Office after the 1916 Easter Monday Rebellion.After that "insurrection" failed, there was guerilla warfare against the English.During that time, Nancy Cardozo writes in "Lucky Eyes and a High Heart" (Bobbs-Merrill), Maud Gonne's "heart ached with pride and fear for her own son.At sixteen, Seagan (Sean MacBride) was already a leader of an IRA squad."Back in Ireland now, Maud tried to save the lives of the hunted and the imprisoned.For Ireland's independence, Gonne was propagandist, street demonstrator, fund raiser, beautiful symbol. She was jailed.In jail at age 56, she went on a hunger strike.Filed 2/1959.
