County Road 408 Bertrand, Missouri Mississippi County Standing tall, hands at the waist, looking over to distance fields. A feeling of impatience emulates from his presence. Been waiting through the icy winter, been waiting through the green spring. The wheat has popped out of the ground, turned green, then shades of brown, now yellow. Still the water has not been turned on. This crop is not thirsty, not now, not never. Here for the corn, or the beans. The plants that need me. but until the wheat is removed and a new crop is sowed, I sit here in the hot sunshine, my legs rusting, my wheels stuck in the dirt. No motivation, noting to do but wait, wait, wait for my hoses to be engaged, the pump switch turned on and the cool water sucked out of the grown and spewed over the crops like a summer shower.
